Animated thriller set in a world where electricity is a rare commodity
Yahoo has scheduled the premiere of “Electric City,” a new animated series with Tom Hanks on board as executive producer and lead voice, for July 17.
While the series was officially announced in January, Yahoo hasn’t disclosed much in the way of detail since then on “City,” perhaps the most ambitious original program to come out of the digital content company. Hanks’ Playtone shingle and Reliance Entertainment are also backing the project, which will be available at Yahoo Screen, where a new trailer for “City” can be found.
“City,” a dramatic thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world where electric power is a precious commodity, will unspool in 10 episodes that are 5-7 minutes in length. All 10 episodes will be distributed from July 17-19.
In keeping with the cross-platform approach of “City,” Reliance’s Jump Games has developed an app for iOs or Android that extends “Electric” in both a role-playing game and other extras that expand on the narrative in the series.
Yahoo has yet to announce which sponsors will sign on for “City.”
In addition to Hanks, other voices in “City” will be provided by Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ginnifer Goodwin, Holland Taylor and Chris Parnell.
