Latest arrival competes with Netflix, Filmnet, HBO

STOCKHOLM

The Scandi VOD market is getting crowded with yet another service set to bow, following the launch of Netflix and Filmnet, and with HBO about to role out a VOD platform.

The new platform, Atflick, will launch in Sweden Dec. 12, and then unspool in other Nordic countries next year, before expanding to continental Europe.

Whereas many rivals are focused on a wide selection of pics and TV series, Atflick will host a smaller and more quality-based catalog, said Johan Goras, chief development officer at Atflick.

The service will focus on three models: regular subscription VOD will cost $7.50 a month; transactional VOD, for new titles on DVD and Blu-ray, will be $6 per view; and the premium service will cost $12 per film for mostly exclusive content.
