Contenders include innovations from Weta Digital, Lucasfilm

The AMPAS Scientific & Technical Awards Committee has selected seven scientific and tech achievements for consideration for this year’s Sci-Tech awards.

Achievements under consideration include Weta Digital’s Tissue: a physically-based character simulation framework; Lucafilm’s Zviz: previsualization system; PDI Dreamworks’ Light: lighting tool; Imagineer Systems Ltd.’s Planar Tracking: mocha and enabling technology; Anton/Bauer’s Cine VCLX portable power system; Matthews Studio Equipment‘s Matthews MAX menace arm; and U. of California, Santa Barbara’s Wavelet Turbulence for Fluid Simulation.

The Acad releases their list so those with similar devices or claims to prior innovation can submit their entries for review. Deadline is Aug. 28.

The Sci-Tech Awards will be presented at the Beverly Wilshire on Feb. 9.
