Kloiber appoints son to head TMG

Schweitzer exits media group

BERLIN — Herbert Kloiber’s Tele Muenchen Group is becoming a tighter family affair, appointing the topper’s son as managing director following the exit of Dirk Schweitzer.

Herbert L. Kloiber will oversee TMG’s content licensing operations as well as Concorde Home Entertainment, video-on-demand joint venture On Demand Deutschland, merchandising division CTM and international sales.

He most recently oversaw strategic expansion and acquisitions at the London-based On Demand Group, where he was also general manager of French-speaking territories and head of business development for Western Europe. On Demand partners with TMG on the German VOD joint venture On Demand Deutschland.

Schweitzer, who was head of acquisitions and international programming at RTL Television before joining TMG, is ankling after only two years for “purely personal reasons.”

Herbert Kloiber expressed regret at Schweitzer’s resignation, but added, “There is, however, no better point in time and finer moment in Tele Muenchen’s 42-year history to call the well-prepared next generation to the bridge.”

One of Europe’s largest media companies, TMG operates a film and TV licensing business, film distributor Concorde and TV channels Tele 5 in Germany and ATV in Austria.

Kloiber recently sold his 85% stake in German exhib group Cinemaxx to the U.K.’s Vue Entertainment for €147 million ($190 million).
