Former Vice President Al Gore will lead Current TV’s coverage of the Democratic and Republican conventions, joining a panel that includes Jennifer Granholm, Eliot Spitzer and Cenk Uygur. California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom will join the panel for the coverage of the Republican National Convention.
A Current spokeswoman said that although Gore will lead coverage, he will not have the “traditional anchor responsibilities.” The channel, which has been turning to former pols for its primetime lineup as it shifts to a progressive talk format, will base its coverage in New York, with David Shuster and Michael Shure reporting from both conventions.
Joy Behar and John Fugelsang will also appear, and Behar’s new Current show “Joy Behar: Say Anything!” will debut on Sept. 4 and lead in to the DNC coverage.
Gore was among the panelists during Current’s coverage of primary season.
