Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Up Next

Zager recently closed three distribution deals with Sony Pictures Classics that illustrate his dealmaking philosophy; “I try to build relationships with the other parties, as it’s such a small community and they’re the people I deal with over and over,” he says. “We’re essentially working for the same goal, and I try to find solutions that meet those goals for both parties.” The deals — for such varied fare as “At Any Price” starring Zac Efron, Israeli film “Fill the Void,” and Saudi film “Wadjda” — also underscore Zager’s long-term strategic thinking; “I’m already looking ahead to the next deals, and they know me and know they can trust me.” He also repped Cold Spring Pictures (Tom Pollock and Ivan Reitman’s financing entity) in “a complicated co-production with Fox” for “Hitchcock,” and Indian Paintbrush Productions’ co-financing of the upcoming “Labor Day,” directed by Jason Reitman.

The next decade: “To run the film finance group at Loeb & Loeb or become the general manager of the New York Giants.”
