Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Legal Eagles

In Lionsgate’s $1 billion (including assumed debt) buy of Summit Entertainment, Moore repped top executives at Summit — a familiar position for one of leading attorneys for independent film companies. The Lionsgate-Summit transaction “was particularly complex because it involved a company sale, plus employment contracts, plus stock grants, plus stock options and all the accompanying tax issues,” says Moore. He originally emerged as a go-to guy in Hollywood on taxation, who over the years broadened his scope to de facto outside general counsel for indie companies. He worked on Exclusive Media’s buy into Millennium Entertainment, and he reps Toho-Towa and Kadokawa on “Smurfs 2” funding via a second-round financing from Hemisphere Capital. Moore also represents a long list of overseas entities such India’s Reliance Media and Russian distributor VolgaFilm, which licensed the Russian territorial rights to “The Hunger Games.” He’s branching out into the online world ,working for kiosk outfit Digiboo, which downloads content onto memory sticks, where he’s also an investor alongside Morgan Freeman.

Outside the office: Owns nine motorcycles (including exotics Ducati, Norton and Moto Guzzi) but no car.

Top cause: The Pacific Council international think tank, under whose auspicious he traveled to Iraq two years ago.
