Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Legal Eagles

Finessing deals that segue one type of creative expression into another medium is a tricky business, but Galsor hopes his recent successes will prove fruitful: He oversaw the pairing of Ubisoft Entertainment (creators of the successful “Assassin’s Creed” video game) with New Regency and says the deal will attract, rather than repel, game fans: “Movies based on video games haven’t been very successful,” he says. “So you need to produce a movie that respects fans’ sensibilities.” He assisted James Cameron in a deal with Cirque de Soleil for “Worlds Away 3D,” but he points to another Cameron deal as a good example of knowing how to deal with multi-platform opportunities: Galsor handled the deals (3-D feature, publishing, Internet) for the director’s underwater journey into the Mariana Trench. “The deal was almost as complicated as his feat, (but) with less chance of dying,” says Galsor.
