Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Up Next

While many firms are lucky to get one big team deal annually, as a key player in O’Melveny & Myers’ entertainment, media and sports practice, Sullins has done three major sports-team deals in under a year. “We sold the San Diego Padres baseball club, and represented the team and outgoing ownership groups in the sale to the O’Malley/Seidler family,” he says. “We also represented the buyer group, led by Robert Pera, in the acquisition of the Memphis Grizzlies basketball franchise, and represented new investors in their purchase of a controlling ownership interest in D.C. United of the MLS.” In each case, Sullins and the firm brought an ability “to build consensus,” both within the different factions of their own clients and between their clients and the opposite parties.

The next decade: “Maintaining our prominence in the entertainment, media and sports practice areas, and becoming the go-to firm for clients looking for a knowledgeable adviser in the sports industry.”
