Dealmakers Impact Report 2012: Legal Eagles

Hergott repped Kathleen Kennedy when she was named co-chair and of Lucasfilm in June and Rich Ross when was hired in October as CEO by TV production house Shine America, which is owned by News Corp. Because Lucasfilm was sold soon thereafter, Kennedy needed an employment contract with buyer Walt Disney Co. so “it became two different deals within a relatively short period of time,” says Hergott. “It was a very unusual circumstance but fascinating in how it all played out.” Hergott’s other clients include Russell Crowe, Brad Pitt, Jake Gyllenhaal and Alan Ball, who produces HBO’s “True Blood.” He also reps David Heyman, who produced all eight “Harry Potter” movies and David Yates, who directed four of them. When asked about Hollywood talent’s penchant to be litigious in the always-churning deal market Hergott protests, “not mine. You haven’t seen any of them in lawsuits.”
