Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith continues to express disenchantment with the media — albeit without pointing a finger at his employer, where it belongs.
Talking about the absurdity of the furor over President Obama's birth certificate and all the time given to Donald Trump in regard to it, Smith rightly said that the media "ought to look in the mirror, every single one of us. … All of this was a load of crap, and all of our colleagues knew this from the very beginning."
What "colleagues" are you referring to, Shep? Maybe these colleagues who also happen to work for Roger Ailes? Feel free to name some names.
SCNN felt compelled to do an extensive report debunking the birther argument, which might have been one of the last straws in the Obama administration's decision to try and put the nonsense to rest.
Not that it will, of course. But anyone who provides any additional coverage of this story — regardless of who is expressing their skepticism — ought to drummed out of the journalism community. Or worse, strapped into a chair and forced to watch "Celebrity Apprentice."
It's fine to disagree with Obama on policy. Trying to delegitimize his ability to even hold the office is simply a way of tacitly pandering to the worst racist impulses brought out by his election.
