MTV reality series returns to 3.65 million viewers

MTV’s “Teen Mom” has hit a new high, at least in ratings terms: the show premiered to 3.65 million total viewers — its best number so far. Not only was the show the #2-ranked telecast on TV for Tuesday, it was the highest-rated program in both people 12-34 and women 12-34 – both desirable ad demos, and MTV’s wheelhouse.

The reality show follows Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, Catelynn Lowell, and Amber Portwood — four teenage mothers living different U.S. cities and trying to deal with similar problems, including rocky family relationships, school, and the occasional violent altercation.

The show is a spinoff of the MTV series “16 and Pregnant” and has in turn spawned its own sister show, “Teen Mom 2.” All three are produced by 11th Street.
