The German women’s soccer team may have lost to Japan on Saturday, but the match was a ratings winner for Teutonic pubcaster ZDF.
In Germany an audience of 17 million watched the quarter finals of the world championship, which netted a 59 share, beating the year’s ratings record set by the qualifying match against Nigeria by half a million viewers. ZDF also earned the day’s second highest rating as the quarter-finals match between England and France drew 6.9 million viewers earlier that evening. ZDF was also the winner on Friday night: Crime drama “Der Alte” brought in 4.25 million viewers for a 17.3 share. Pubcaster ARD took Sunday with long-running crime series “Tatort” coming in with 16.2 million viewers for a 19.3 share.ZDF wins with women’s soccer
