Viacom, SBS ink Korean pact

Pact covers MTV, Nickelodeon channels

SEOUL — Viacom Intl. Media Networks and South Korea’s SBS Media Holdings have inked a joint-venture pact, with SBS holding 51%.

Venture will produce Korean-language music, entertainment and programming for MTV Korea, which will be rebranded SBS-MTV, and Nickelodeon Korea and for distribution across other Viacom-owned platforms.

Nickelodeon Korea will become the first tyke channel to be offered as part of SBS’ bundle of cable and satellite TV channels.

SBS will manage ad and affiliate sales and rep consumer products for both nets; VIMN will rep the venture outside Korea. Programming details for SBS-MTV and Nick Korea will be announced closer to the channels’ December launch. – — Han Sunhee
