Peacock has officially made the move in changing the name of its cable entity to NBC Sports Network, a major part of rebrand that the net hopes will give the channel better footing with sports giant ESPN.
Official change won’t take place until Jan. 2, 2012, where a new logo will also be put into place.
Versus’ most important property is the National Hockey League, which just recently reupped with the Peacock on a 10-year deal.
Move aims to alert viewers and Madison Avenue that the cabler is better aligned with the rest of the NBC Sports properties.
”This effort is a major step towards a complete strategic alignment of all our platforms and businesses,” said NBC Sports Group chairman Mark Lazarus. ”This is more than just a name change for Versus. It’s a complete repositioning of the brand to provide value for marketers, consumers as well as all our affiliates and distributors. We want anyone who comes into contact with any of our assets to immediately connect with the NBC Sports brand promise.”
