Univision is getting into the format sales business. The U.S. Hispanic media giant has teamed with Scott Sternberg Prods. for worldwide distribution of the hit reality show “Nuestra belleza Latina” (Our Latin Beauty), Univision’s first inhouse format available globally.
Now in its sixth season, the reality competish centers on a bevy of femmes of different Latino nationalities who compete for the top prize, which includes cash and a one-year on-air TV contract at Univision. Finalists live together and receive lessons in dancing, runway modeling and the use of teleprompters.
“I have my eye on a couple of their other formats now that the doors have opened up to us,” said Sternberg, who has produced Spanish-language shows for both Univision and Telemundo.
SSP also produced “Sunday Morning Shootout,” co-hosted by Variety’s Peter Bart and producer Peter Guber.
Sternberg plans to primarily focus sales efforts on English-speaking markets, followed by the European markets.
“Nuestra belleza Latina” debuted on Univision in March 2007. Show’s season-five finale in May 2011 became the most-watched finale in its history with an average of 4.9 million viewers tuning in, outperforming CBS and NBC among adult viewers 18-34.
SSP produces the syndicated series “Live From Daryl’s House” on KTLA, “On the Case With Paula Zahn” for Investigation Discovery and “Raw Nerve” with William Shatner for Bio, among others.
