Upstart U.K. shingle Wide Eyed Entertainment (WEE) is to open a U.S. office in Washington, D.C. It will be run by Parule Basu-Barua, managing director and executive VP of WEE.Shingle recently sold the format of “Redemption Inc.” to CBC. Other productions include “The Egyptian Job,” “March of the Dinosaurs” and “Civil Warriors,” which marked the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. WEE has worked with National Geographic US, NGCI, Discovery Networks, Smithsonian Networks, ITV, History Television, Super RTL and France 5. “North America is an important territory for us and since the launch of WEE in 2008 we have built strong relationships with the major networks,” said Basu-Barua. CEO Jasper James CEO and creative director David McNab will continue to oversee U.K. operations. In 1999, U.S.-based Basu-Barua helped launch BBC America, before subsequently setting up and running bbcamerica.com and BBC America Video On Demand.
