TBS is teeing up “The Kid.”Cabler has bought a script for a one-hour comedy about the relationship between a pro golfer and his caddy — both on and off the course — based on a story created with the help of Phil Mickelson’s longtime caddie, Jim “Bones” Mackay.
Donald Todd, who is also exec producing, will write the pilot. Todd, Mackay, actor David Morse, Sports Illustrated writer Michael Bamberger and Jay Hass all collaborated on the idea for the show.
Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin also exec produce for Warner Horizon. The pair have collaborated on several shows for the studio, including TNT’s longtime procedural hit “The Closer.”
In the pilot, the golfer is a young but socially awkward prodigy trying to live up to the hype others have generated around him.
Mackay has caddied for Mickelson, a three-time Masters champ, for 18 years.
Morse, Hass, Bamberger and Mackay are represented by Kipperman Management. Todd is repped by the Rothman Brecher Agency.
TBS’ comedy offerings have been original half-hours, including Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns,” as well as a handful of offnet sitcoms.
