It will go out on Telefonica's IPTV platform
CANNES — Spreading its net ever wider, Sundance Channel Global is set to launch in Spain, following a deal with Telefonica’s IPTV service, Moviestar Imageno.
Deal is due to be announced at Mip TV on Monday by Ed Palluth, Rainbow Media Global’s senior VP of global distribution and Ignacio Fernandez-Vega, Telefonica’s audiovisual services manager.
Kicking off June 1, Spain’s Sundance Channel Global will be accessible to viewers via Moviestar Imagineo’s Family Package, which has more than 70 pay TV channels. Deal also includes SD and HD versions of Sundance Channel on demand and mobile rights.
In less than two years, Sundance Channel Global has already launched in France, Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands, Malta, Canada, Singapore and Korea.
“This is a highly significant launch for Sundance Channel Global as Spain remains a key TV market in Europe, said Palluth. “It also marks a logical next step in our progression throughout Europe.”
One of Spain’s largest TV operators, Telefonica operates in 25 countries with more than 260 millions customers worldwide. Moviestar Imagenio is the only IPTV platform in Spain with more than 780,000 subscribers.
