Showtime has ordered second seasons of freshman skeins “Shameless” and “Episodes.”
“Shameless,” the Brit import starring Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy, will have a 12-episode order while the episode order for Matt LeBlanc starrer “Episodes” hasn’t been determined. Production on both skeins will begin later this year.
“The viewer loyalty and critical acclaim that has met both ‘Shameless’ and ‘Episodes’ since their January debuts makes it clear that these two brash and sophisticated series are burgeoning hits,” said Showtime president David Nevins.
“Shameless” averages about 4 million viewers weekly, including VOD. “Episodes,” in which LeBlanc plays himself in a fictional sitcom, is drawing just under 2 million viewers. Showtime’s top show is “Dexter” (5.2 million).
“Shameless” — about the hardscrabble life of a Chicago family whose father is an alcoholic — is exec produced by John Wells, Paul Abbott and Andrew Stearn. David Crane, Jeffrey Klarik and Jimmy Mulville are exec producers on “Episodes.”
