Cabler focuses on often unrecognized pics
By STUART LEVINEShortsHD, a network dedicated to nothing but short films, is making a toehold at DirecTV. Cabler is set to launch on the satcaster today as part of a tiered channel group. Programming will also be available via video on demand. The ShortsHD catalog features Oscar winners, animated pics and films from around the globe. Movies will be slotted in 30- and 60-minute themes, such as comedies, musicals, documentaries, thrillers, dramas and animation. “Short movies are addictive. The audiences are passionate and growing,” said ShortsHD chief executive Carter Pilcher. “We’re excited to bring the world of short movies to DirecTV subscribers.” Said Toby Berlin, VP of program acquisitions for DirecTV: “Short films are growing in popularity and we are excited to help increase the visibility for this great art form.” ShortsHD, which debuted in 2010, is the creation of Shorts Intl., a prominent short movie entertainment company.
