Ferran Tomas, former director of the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries, is joining Rodar y Rodar, one of Barcelona’s biggest production houses, to power up its TV production division.
Tomas will focus on the development and production of TV fiction, series, miniseries and TV movies, he told Daily Variety. He takes his post immediately.
“The aim is to create TV fiction not only for Spain but also international markets, creating production relations with foreign producers,” Tomas said.
Broadcasters such as Gaul’s M6 and TF1 already adapt Spanish fiction, or program original series. Rather than developing spec scripts, Tomas will work with broadcasters to develop content in which they have already shown an interest, he added.
Producer of upscale genre pics, such as “The Orphanage” and “Julia’s Eyes,” Rodar is one of Spain’s most successful and internationally ambitious moviemakers.
