Ridley Scott is returning to his sci-fi roots.
The director of seminal bigscreen genre pics “Blade Runner” and “Alien” is heading to the Science Channel to produce “Prophets of Science Fiction.”
Discovery cabler has greenlit eight episodes of the skein, which will profile outstanding sci-fi minds including Isaac Asimov, “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry and “Star Wars” director George Lucas. Focus will be on what their ground-breaking work meant at the time and how it affected future breakthroughs.
“Prophets” is set to debut in the second half of 2011.
“I hope that the audience will find the subjects as interesting and inspiring as I do,” Scott said.
He’s no stranger to television, serving as exec producer of CBS drama “The Good Wife” and recent Starz mini “The Pillars of the Earth.” His most recent bigscreen pic was last year’s “Robin Hood.”
