Meg Lowe has been named senior VP of distribution and strategy for Oprah Winfrey’s cable network OWN, a joint venture with Discovery Communications. The net has gone through plenty of upheaval since its January launch, but exec positions at the net appear to be stabilizing with the recent announcement that Oprah would be taking the reins at the troubled cabler herself, and the subsequent news that the net’s top brass would include vets of Winfrey’s company Harpo, which produced her syndicated show.
Lowe, by contrast, comes to the network from a long career in the cable world, most recently at Discovery Communications, where she’s worked since last year. In the new role, she’ll lead sales, affiliate marketing, and carriage negotiations for OWN. Prior to her tenure at Discovery, Lowe was a fifteen-year MTV Networks veteran, serving until her departure as senior VP of content distribution and marketing, overseeing distribution for all MTC and BET networks.
