Nominee reaction: Pamela Fryman

Director, 'How I Met Your Mother'

The “How I Met Your Mother” episode that earned sitcom vet Pamela Fryman her first-ever Emmy directing nom was a true showcase of the laffer’s best assets, from the skill of its stars to its hybrid single-cam/multi-cam lensing format.

“Subway Wars” involved the “HIMYM” gang engaging in a race across Gotham. “It was sort of the best of everything we have — a fantastic script that was beautifully acted with a lot going on,” Fryman said.

“It was a real challenge for all of us — we spent a couple of days on the Universal backlot, we had subway cars and buses on the stage. Everybody had to bring their best came to make it work,” she said.

Because it was such an all-hands-on-deck effort, Fryman has decided that the helming nom is “truly a nomination for the show, and I’m particularly thrilled about it.”
