Ty Burrell feels grateful for his second Emmy nomination, thank you, even if he is merely one of six thesps nominated from ABC’s “Modern Family.”
“That’s kind of what’s astounding to me, is that I never feel deserving of quite frankly anything,” Burrell said. “That’s something to be settled on a couch, but I just think this is a very special experience.”
A year ago, “Modern Family” earned five nominations, but Ed O’Neill was a notable omission. Burrell said there was a little bit of discussion among the cast about that, saying that everyone felt “conflicted” that O’Neill wasn’t recognized.
This year, O’Neill joined the party. Appropriately, Burrell’s favorite memory from the past season of the laffer was an episode that brought the cast together: “See You Next Fall,” featuring daughter Alex’s graduation from middle school.
“It was just kind of a confluence of a lot of things,” Burrell said, “the range of stuff in that episode for everybody. People get sick of hearing it, but we really do like each other as a group. And when we get to spend that kind of time as a group together, out on the graduation field, goofing with each other, cracking each other up …
“For someone with a terrible memory, it will take me a good year and a half to forget,” he joked.
