New ‘Makeover’ works for ABC

Weight-loss show, 'Bachelorette' pace Monday victory

ABC cruised to a ratings victory on Memorial Day behind the second week of ”The Bachelorette” and a nice start for ”Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition,” with the latter the night’s No. 1 show in demos.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, ”The Bachelorette” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) was down from last week’s premiere, which followed ”Dancing With the Stars,” but ruled as the No. 1 broadcaster in 18-49 in all four of its half-hours from 8 to 10. It was followed by the debut of ”Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition” (2.3/6 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall), which led its hour in all categories and was up by 15% over the premiere of ”True Beauty” in the timeslot a year ago.

CBS ran second among broadcasters on the night in 18-49 , tied with Univision , with repeats of ”How I Met Your Mother” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall), ”Mad Love” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall), ”Two and a Half Men” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall), ”Mike and Molly” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall) and ”Hawaii Five-0” (1.3/3 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall).

NBC started with a repeat of gameshow ”Minute to Win It” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall), followed by new episodes of dramas ”Law and Order: Criminal Intent” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall for an episode that had aired previously on cable network USA) and ”Law and Order: L.A.” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall).

Fox barely registered with repeats of ”House” at 8 (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) and 9 (0.9/2 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 2.2/6; CBS and Univision, 1.4/4; NBC, 1.1/3; Fox, 0.9/3; CW, 0.2/1.

In total viewers: ABC, 7.1 million; CBS, 5.5 million; NBC, 5.2 million; Univision, 3.7 million; Fox, 3.3 million; CW, 0.6 million.
