NBC’s ‘Ref’ OK in return

Reality show one of top skeins on quiet Sunday

NBC edged out Fox among young adults on the final Sunday of June behind the return of ”The Marriage Ref” and an encore ”America’s Got Talent.” HBO’s ”True Blood” was expected to easily top all programs on the night.

Looking at the meager broadcast offerings on the night, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, NBC’s ”The Marriage Ref” averaged a 1.6 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 and 4.6 million viewers overall to easily top the 18-49 scores of repeats on ABC and CBS in the 10 o’clock hour; still, ”Ref” was down about 20% from its most recent airing a little over a year ago. Also for NBC, ”Dateline” averaged a 0.8/3 in 18-49 and 7.0 million viewers overall, followed by a two-hour repeat of ”America’s Got Talent” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers overall).

Fox did decent demo business from 8 to 10 p.m. with repeats of animated laffers ”The Simpsons” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall), ”The Cleveland Show” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall), ”Family Guy” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) and ”American Dad” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall).

ABC did little on the night, and was led by repeats of ”America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) and ”Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall). And CBS, whose ”60 Minutes” topped all broadcast programs on the night in total viewers (about 7 million), was paced in the demos by repeats of ”Undercover Boss” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) and ”CSI: Miami” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 1.4/4; Fox, 1.3/4; Univision, 1.1/3; CBS, 0.9/3; ABC, 0.8/2.

In total viewers: CBS, 5.5 million; NBC, 4.7 million; ABC, 4.2 million; Univision, 3.0 million; Fox, 2.6 million.

Ratings for the fourth-season premiere of ”True Blood” aren’t expected until Tuesday morning. Sunday also featured the typically high-rated ”BET Awards” on BET.
