NBC extends Carell’s ‘Office’ time

Finale episode to run 50 minutes

NBC is extending Steve Carell’s time at “The Office.”

Peacock announced that Carell’s finale episode, titled “Goodbye Michael,” will run 50 minutes, from 9-9:50 p.m. April 28. Will Ferrell and Amy Ryan are scheduled to guest star.

To accommodate a longer-running “Office,” “Parks and Recreation” will begin at 9:50 and also run long. The Amy Poehler starrer will conclude at 10:30, and “30 Rock” will conclude the Peacock’s lineup.

This is far from the first time NBC has made laffer episodes longer than their intended 30 minutes. In 2001, NBC would often “supersize” episodes in order to draw higher ratings. Among the shows that ran an extra 20 minutes in order to draw higher ratings were “Friends,” “Will & Grace” and “Just Shoot Me.”
