Exec will oversee day to day operations of Tribune cabler

Julio Marenghi has been promoted to exec veep and general manager of WGN America.

Marenghi will oversee the channel’s day to day operations, aiding in programmign decisions and management of the business side. He previously served as exec veep of sales and distribution for the Tribune Broadcasting-owned cabler, which has been on a growth spurt after revamping its primetime lineup last fall with off-network comedies.

Before joining WGN America in 2009, Marenghi was a senior exec at CBS Television Stations.

“Since (Marenghi) joined the network, our ad sales have improved, our bottom line results have steadily increased and we are in total growth mode. His leadership is second to none and we’re glad he’s on our team,” said Tribune Broadcasting prexy Jerry Kersting.
