Producer takes on sitcom for BBC1

U.S. comedy producer Caryn Mandabach is to make “With the Flynns,” a new six-part family sitcom, for BBC1.

“Flynns” is about a working couple raising three kids, while dealing with an irresponsible brother and cantankerous dad.

Mandabach, whose Caryn Mandabach Prods. signed a development deal with the BBC six years ago, said, “I’m thrilled to find that families in the U.K. are just as extraordinary and funny as they are back in the U.S.”

Show stars local thesps Will Mellor, Warren Clarke, Niky Wardley and Craig Parkinson.

“Flynns” could fill the gap created by new BBC1 controller Danny Cohen’s decision to ax long-running sitcom “My Family,” created by Fred Barron, another U.S. TV comedy specialist.

Mandabach, whose credits include “Nurse Jackie,” “Roseanne,” “3rd Rock From the Sun,” and “The Cosby Show,” will be one of the exec producers on the new skein. It will be helmed by Dominic Brigstocke, and written by Daniel Peak, George Jeffrie and Bert Tyler-Moore, one of the “My Family” writers.
