Jennifer Lopez has officially commited to returning to “American Idol’ as a judge with Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson.
“Having both Jennifer and Steven return to ‘Idol’ in 2012 alongside Randy is such a positive reflection on what was a wonderful and hugely successful season last year, and everyone is delighted,” said “American Idol” creator and exec producer Simon Fuller.
Exec producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz praised the chemistry of Lopez, Tyler, Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest, while Fox alternative programming topper Mike Darnell celebrated their “incredible connection with both the contestants and our viewers.”
A week earlier, exec producer Nigel Lythgoe had all but confirmed Lopez’s return in a radio interview with Seacrest.
“I believe we’re still waiting for the official announcement, but I am delighted to say that all three judges, along with the brilliant host of ‘American Idol’ is back for the next season,” Lythgoe said at the time.
The 11th season of “Idol” will have its premiere Jan. 22, in a special Sunday airing following the NFC Championship Game on Fox. This year, the skein extended its streak of finishing No. 1 among adults 18-49 to eight seasons in a row.
