The longtime ABC News correspondent will report for the show, which is scheduled to bow on Oct. 31 in the 10 p.m. slot. Koppel’s addition to the team had been rumored for some time.
“Ted has touched every major news event spanning nearly five decades, and not only does he bring a tremendous amount of experience to the broadcast, he is a tireless advocate for quality journalism, and is one of our profession’s premiere storytellers,” said NBC News prexy Steve Capus.
Koppel exited ABC News in late 2005 after a nearly 40-year run. He most recently had a multi-year pact with Discovery Communications to produce news and docu programming. He had also worked as an analyst for BBC News.
