Meryl Streep, Neil Diamond, Barbara Cook, Yo-Yo Ma and jazz great Sonny Rollins have been selected to receive this year’s Kennedy Center Honors.
The five artists will be celebrated Dec. 4 at the center’s annual gala, to be broadcast Dec. 27 on CBS. The production, slated to be presented before an audience of showbiz and D.C. celebs including President Obama and wife Michelle, will again be helmed by George Stevens Jr. and his son Michael. As usual, the sked also includes a private dinner at the U.S. State Department for honorees and guests the previous evening hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and a Sunday afternoon reception at the White House. Kennedy Center chairman David M. Rubenstein said the center celebrates its 40th anniversary by selecting five “extraordinary individuals whose collective artistry has contributed significantly to the cultural life of our nation and the world.”Kennedy Center to honor Meryl Streep
