John Roberts ankles CNN for Fox News

Emmy-winning anchor will be based in Atlanta

CNN’s “American Morning” anchor John Roberts is leaving the net to join Fox News Channel as a senior national correspondent based out of Atlanta.

Prior to joining Fox News, Roberts worked at “This Week” and, from 2007 to the end of 2010, “American Morning,” which has seen a recent ratings decline, making 2010 the program’s lowest-rated year on record in total viewers and demo viewers. Prior to his time at CNN, Roberts worked at CBS News for 14 years and has received numerous awards, including three national Emmys for his coverage of the Atlanta Olympic bombing, the death of Princess Diana and the crash of TWA flight 800.

“His reputation as a skilled journalist with years of notable experience in the field will be a valuable addition to our news programming,” said FNC senior veep of news editorial Michael Clemente.
