Naturi Naughton also lands lead role in 1960s drama

It’s official: Amber Heard has landed the role of Maureen on the NBC pilot “Playboy.”

Originally an orphan from Fort Wayne, Ind., Maureen is a new hire at the Playboy Club. She’s an eager, inquisitive young woman with an untethered, unconscious sexuality and a dark, lonely past that makes her fearless.

Heard was a recurring on 2007 CW series “Hidden Palms” and appeared in 2009 bigscreen pic “Zombieland.” Heard’s “Playboy” casting was first reported by Variety on Wednesday.

Also cast is Naturi Naughton, who will play Brenda. She has has aspirations to become the first African-American Playboy centerfield and will room with Maureen in the bunny dorm. Naughton had a role in an episode of last season’s “Mad Men.”

Network picked up the pilot in early January. Hourlong drama is set in the 1960s heyday Playboy clubs that popped up in several cities around the country.

Chad Hodge (“Tru Calling”) penned the script and exec produces with Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Twentieth Century Fox TV and Imagine TV are producing.
