Inaugural ceremony set for February 2013 in New York

The Intl. Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is launching the IEmmy Kids Awards, a competition and stand-alone ceremony recognizing excellence in tyke TV programming produced and initially aired outside the U.S.

Kudos in six categories — preschool, factual, non-scripted, animated, made-for or miniseries and skein — will be handed out at a gala in February 2013 in Gotham.

Entries can be submitted from today until Feb. 15 with three rounds of judging taking place in summer and fall.

“For years, kids production has been underserved in our Intl. Emmy awards process, and we felt strongly it was time to give that vital and booming programming area its due,” said Academy prexy and CEO Bruce L. Paisner. The awards “will provide a global showcase for the world’s best kids programming and a unique networking opportunity for kids television executives from around the world.”
