Number will rise to 139 mil by 2016
LONDON — Indian pay television subscribers have exceeded 100 million, according to a report by U.K. based company Digital TV Research.
The number represents more than 70% of Indian television households.
The report forecasts that pay television subscribers will increase to 139 million by 2016.
Pay television revenues will double to $8 billion by 2016.
Direct-to-home subscriptions will double to 47 million by 2016, with revenues from the sector quadrupling to $3.4 billion.
Though the rate of digital cable expansion is rapid, there will be 51 million analog cable subscribers by 2016, with digital expected to reach 32 million. The report also predicts that India will have 8.7 million IPTV subscribers by 2016.
