ID acquires off-net rights to ’20/20′

New program is set to debut June 7

Investigation Discovery has acquired off-network rights to ten episodes of ABC News’s “20/20,” some dated as recently as this year. The buy is something of a hat trick for the true crime cabler, giving ID access to newsmagazines from ABC, NBC and CBS. The new program is set to debut June 7 at 8:00 p.m.

As it has with NBC’s “Dateline” and CBS’s “48 Hours” and “60 Minutes,” the Discovery Communications network will rebrand the show “20/20 on ID” and will include updated footage and reporting. Chris Cuomo will host the refurbished shows.

The net’s newsmagazine stable backs up its original skein, “On the Case with Paula Zahn.”

“With 20/20 ON ID, Investigation Discovery is the only home for the very best of all three broadcast networks’ newsmagazines,” said ID g.m. and prexy Henry Schleiff.
