Michael Keaton exec producing show based on caper novel
HBO is getting into business with Miami author and satirist Carl Hiaasen, putting his novel “Skinny Dip” into development.
Michael Oates Palmer will pen the adaptation and will exec produce with Michael Keaton, who has a wide-ranging first-look deal at the network.
“Skinny Dip” is a caper story about an heir-heiress pushed overboard on a yacht by her larcenous husband. The woman, a former swimming champ, swims to safety while holding on to a bale of marijuana. She and a moody ex-cop decide whether she should fake her death so they can plot revenge on her husband.
Hiaasen has written more than two dozen books, and his popular tomes have been translated into 34 different languages. Palmer has written for a handful of series, including “Rubicon,” “Army Wives” and “The West Wing.”
Keaton’s deal at HBO includes exec producing, directing and starring in material for the pay cabler.
Hiaasen, Palmer and Keaton are repped by ICM.
