MEXICO CITY — HBO Latin America unveiled plans Wednesday to launch HBO Go in the region next year.
According to a statement, the online platform will make available HBO’s premium films, series and other programming to all subscribers of the feevee network in any of the 23 countries where it operates in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition to alerts for new content, HBO Go will bow content simultaneously with television debuts. HBO is creating the platform to offer service via computer, tablet or smartphones.
The announcement comes on the heels of this month’s online rollout by Netflix in Latin America, opening Sept. 5 in Brazil and Sept. 12 in Mexico as it moves into 43 countries by the close of 2011.
Branching out from its 320 stores nationwide, Blockbuster Mexico is also vying to get into the online game with hopes to launch its own platform this year.
