Gedeon, France’s most prolific producer of nature and science documentaries, is diving deeper into 3D production with docs “Ocean Kings” and “The Real Spiderman.”
“Ocean Kings,” helmed by Peter De Mulder, follows Italian free diver Umberto Pelizzari as he looks at the sport around the world. The €2 million ($2.6 million) doc is co-produced by Belgium’s Nexus and De Mulder’s Vahana Prods.
“Spiderman” focuses on Alain Robert, alias the “French Spiderman,” as he preps to climb Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. A raft of cameras placed along the tower and inside helicopters will capture Robert’s climb. Doc will be helmed by Robert’s brother Thierry. Gedeon is working with Gallic 3D specialist Binocle on “Spiderman” and other 3D projects. Gedeon founder and CEO Stephane Milliere said he was in talks with partners from Dubai.
Gedeon’s latest 3D docu, “Makay,” which chronicles a two-month expedition into Madagascar’s Makay Valley, was commissioned by Canal Plus and pre-sold to key territories.
“There seems to be a real appetite for ambitious, international-driven event documentary,” said Christine Cauquelin, head of docs at Canal Plus.
