NBC will air the season finale of the G4 series “American Ninja Warrior” on Aug. 22, the network announced Friday.
The two-hour special, shot in Japan, will get an hourlong preview on G4 at 8 p.m. before sending viewers to NBC at 9. The finale will also be replayed on G4 on Aug. 23.
It’s another example of the increased emphasis Comcast Corp., parent company to both networks, is putting on synergy among its properties to cross-promote programming. NBC hit “The Voice,” for instance, has been replayed on another Comcast-owned cable channel, E!
With a broadcast window on its biggest night, “Warrior” gets the chance to pick up new viewers who may not be familiar with the series or G4, while NBC can fill some time in the dog days of summer.
Giving cable programming a window on broadcast isn’t unprecedented on NBC, even before Comcast came along. Episodes of the Bravo hit “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” got some replays on the Peacock in 2003.
Third season of “Ninja” begins July 31 on G4.
