Cabler acquires pics' commercial TV preem rights

FX has acquired commercial TV premiere rights to the past weekend’s top two new B.O. performers, “Green Lantern” and “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” which will appear on the net in late 2013-early 2014.

Continuing to show a flair for feature film fare, FX now holds rights to the current box office top six: “Lantern,” “Super 8,” “Penguins,” “X-Men: First Class,” “The Hangover Part II” and “Kung Fu Panda 2.” With the $53.2 million that “Lantern” earned last weekend and the $18.4 million take for “Penguins,” those six films have a cumulative B.O. this year of $641.8 million.

In each of the past two years, FX acquired rights to 11 of the 20 highest-grossing films.
