Cop, superpower drama is based on graphic novel

Just a week after it ordered the Ryan Murphy-Brad Falchuk pilot “American Horror Story,” FX is ramping up with “Powers.”

Drama, based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, centers on a pair of detectives who deal with cases involving people with superpowers.

The pilot, from Sony Pictures Tel-evision and FX Prods., is written by Charles “Chic” Eglee and directed by Michael Dinner, who brought the project to the cabler. Production will begin in the late spring.

With “Terriers” canceled after one season, “Lights Out” struggling and “Rescue Me” wrapping this year, FX is looking for a new drama to help fill out its schedule.

Circle of Confusion is the shingle behind “Powers,” with Dinner and Eglee set to exec produce.
