Project comes from trio of 'Sunny' writer-producers

FX, feeling bullish about the success of its toon “Archer,” has given a series order to the animated comedy “Unsupervised.”

Skein was created and is exec produced by a trio of writer-producers — Rob Rosell, Scott Marder and David Hornsby — on the cabler’s long-running live-action comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Net has ordered 13 episodes that will premiere in January and be paired with “Archer.”

“Unsupervised” centers on a pair of best friends navigating the harsh landscape of teen-age life and trying to do what’s right without any parental guidance.

The voice cast includes Justin Long, Kristen Bell, Romany Malco, Fred Armisen, Kaitlin Olson and Alexa Vega, along with Rosell and Hornsby.

“Having worked with David, Rob and Scott for many years on ‘Sunny,’ it gives us great pleasure to see them make their own stamp on FX,” said Nick Grad, FX’s exec VP of original series.

Skein is produced by FX Prods., with RCG Prods. and Floyd County. RCG is the shingle of “Sunny” exec producers Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton.FX has made comedy a priority. “Unsupervised” getting a series greenlight, the net will have six laffers on the air: “Sunny,” “The League,” “Louie,” “Archer” and “Wilfred.”
