Looks to Japan for possible global formats
FremantleMedia is collaborating with Japan’s Asahi Broadcasting Corp. on a review of ABC’s catalog to identify shows that could become global formats.The move follows the production giant’s successful partnership with Japan’s Fuji Media that resulted in gamers “Total Backout” and “Trouble Shooter,” produced for European auds. “ABC’s catalog spans over half a century, and until now it has mainly been for the enjoyment of Japanese viewers. We see great potential in their current and future content,” said Gary Carter, FremantleMedia’s chief operating officer. FremantleMedia’s global franchises include “Idols,” “Got Talent” and “The X Factor.”
