Two years after its launch in Italy, Fox Intl. Channels’ Fox Retro station is proving a top draw on Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Italia paybox, leading to the likely launch of FIC’s vintage skeins station elsewhere in Europe.
Fox Retro, which airs beloved oldies including “Starsky and Hutch,” “Kojak,” “Magnum P.I.,” “Miami Vice,” and “MASH,” became the eighth most watched network on Sky Italia’s 32-channel platform in January.
Launched in 2009 and slickly packaged with contempo graphics, the vintage channel is yielding among the highest values of average time spent among all Sky Italia subs in the 15-54 primetime demo, scoring particularly high in its 35-44 core target aud, according to FIC.
“Fox Retro’s success story confirms that giving endearing and well-known TV series a dedicated home also adds value to the audience, the platform, and the channel,” Diego Londono, prexy of FOX Channels Italy and Germany, said in a statement.
“Due to its tremendous success in Italy, we are currently exploring further launch opportunities within the European market,” he said.
