Flash-mob special impressed in post-'Idol' slot

Fox has elevated unscripted special “Mobbed” to series based on an impressive ratings performance Thursday following “American Idol.”

The network ordered eight more episodes of the concept, which features flash mobs and Howie Mandel as host.

The “Mobbed” premiere notched a 3.8 rating/10 share among viewers 18-49 and 10.8 million total viewers, giving Fox its most-watched unscripted program to follow an episode of ”Idol” since ”Hell’s Kitchen” in January 2009. ”Mobbed” retained all of its 18-49 rating from its first halfhour to its second, and grew among viewers 18-34.

Fox had originally intended to air the untitled Jamie Foxx/Affion Crockett sketch comedy show in the slot, but that has been postponed until June.

Executive producers are Chris Cowan, Jean-Michel Michenaud, Mike Marks, Darryl Trell, Howard Kitrosser, Kevin Healey and Michael Rotenberg along with Mandel, who created the format with Trell and Kitrosser.
