Encore cabler plans Jerry Lewis doc

Pic will mark comedian's 85th birthday this year

Just in time to celebrate Jerry Lewis’ 85th birthday, Encore is producing a feature docu on the comedian.

Pay cabler said the pic is targeted to bow in late summer. It’s built around footage gathered by helmer-producer Gregg Barson (“Goodnight, We Love You”), who has been filming Lewis for the past three years, and clips from Lewis’ personal archives. Lewis turned 85 on March 16.

In addition, the docu will feature new interviews with Carol Burnett, Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, Billy Crystal, Chevy Chase, Woody Harrelson, Richard Lewis, Carl Reiner, Richard Belzer and John Landis, among others.

“This will not be a typical biography on him, but more of a candid look at the man himself,” said Stephan Shelanski, exec veep of programming for Starz Entertainment.

Said Lewis: “Watch and see how a crazy man made his living.”
